Primary Production Employment as a Production Engineer Job Description Responsibilities: Shop Floor Production Leadership: Oversee daily production shifts, delegating tasks to operators and technical teams in order to safely meet targeted product quantities. Bottleneck and Cycle Time Optimization: Use Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce idle operator capacity and cycle times by analyzing line-balancing metrics to identify process bottlenecks. Engineering Blueprint & Process Mapping: Train plant floor operators to accurately carry out work sequences by interpreting engineering schematics, manufacturing routing instructions, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Scrap and Yield Variance Minimization: Monitor trends in the use of raw materials to identify excess material waste, then adjust machine settings or cut steps to reduce scrap rates below desired levels. Root Cause Problem Solving: When components fail assembly testing, conduct structured engineering failure investigations and apply rapid engineering remedies on the line. Support for New Product Introductions (NPIs): Work collaboratively with the Design Engineering and Tooling teams to conduct pilot prototype batches and update shop floor instructions to facilitate the scaling of volume production. Enforce plant safety procedures, appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and stringent 5S shop floor cleaning standards throughout your designated assembly zones to reinforce safety and regulatory standards.
