WHAT YOUD BE DOING : Working autonomously under very minimal supervision, the Database Engineer - Informix, is responsible for the day to day operations of the Informix database responsibilities of this role would include owning, tracking and resolving Informix related incidents and service requests, fulfilling Service Level Agreements (SLAs), reviewing service related reports (e.g.: backups, maintenance, monitoring, batch jobs) on a daily basis to ensure service-related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs, responding to Informix-related alerts and escalations, working with application development to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems and introducing new components, services and third party technologies into the environment. The position also requires establishing and maintaining communication with technology customers to keep them updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes. MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: - Interacting with business stakeholders and/or development teams to ensure all the best Informix best practices are used within the enterprise and provide design guidance on the Informix infrastructure - Architect Informix applications/platforms which meet customer/vertical expectations - Administering security using best practices and least privilege access policies, including server level, file system and databases - On-going support for multiple Informix environments (non-prod/prod) - Forecast for database growth, an increased user-base and growing demand for use of cluster resources - Actively monitors database performance to identify bottlenecks, such as inefficient queries, inconsistent and/or corrupt indexes, database design, and provides recommendations for corrective actions. Performs database statistic reporting on a regularly scheduled basis. Ensures the high availability of the supported database(s).
-Work on strategic initiatives keeping in view next 3-5 years horizon - Provide data architecture and modeling advice as necessary - Provide guidance in stressful situations such as business continuity exercises and production down - Stay in touch with latest technical developments - keep up with best practices being followed in industry around Informix - Work towards building a great team and next line of senior engineers - Test new technologies by doing proofs of concept and analyzing how they can be utilized - Create tools and applications that can be used in day-to-day operations EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE : - 5 years of solid Informix experience - Experience with Informix running on AIX/Power systems - Experience with managing Informix using third party and native tools - Solid understanding of Informix configurations and resource planning and utilization - Strong shell scripting and AIX OS awareness - Solid understanding how middleware and other components interact with Informix - A full understanding of Informix high availability solutions (HADR, ER, Cluster) and Connection manager setup - Solid understanding of archiving techniques - Solid understanding of multi-server administration - Solid understanding of database scalability fundamentals including partitioning, clustering, replication, multi-site database architectures, high availability, and snapshots - Comfortable working in an agile environment with ability to effectively multi-task - Optional experience with database platforms in the public cloud such as AWS, Google and Azure - Optional experience with other data technologies such as Incorta, Tableau, Qlik sense - Optional experience with ELT/ETL processes - Optional experience with other database technologies such as SQL Server...
