SolidWorks Design Engineer Job Description Duties: Parametric 3D Modeling & Design: Use industry best practices to prevent feature tree mistakes while creating big mechanical assemblies and strong, fully constrained parametric 3D part models in SolidWorks. Production Blueprint Generation: Convert 3D models into precise, multi-view 2D engineering drawings, fabrication layouts, and production blueprints with dimensions, structural welding callouts, and clear annotations. Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA): Apply precise bend deductions for sheet metal structures, split-line drawings for injection molding, and toolpath access clearances for CNC machining to optimize component designs for particular factory floor operations. FEA Stress & Deflection Simulation: To reduce prototype weight and remove mechanical structural weak areas, run early-stage linear static, structural stress, and deflection simulations using SolidWorks Simulation (FEA). Structured BOM & Vault Data Management: Create and oversee intricate, multi-level Bills of Materials (BOMs); use SolidWorks PDM (Product Data Management) to manage file verification, revision lock procedures, and engineering modifications. Ownership of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs): Process ECRs methodically, carry out geometry updates, spread parent-child assembly modifications, and tidy up previous drawing releases. Focus Skills: Advanced SolidWorks Environment Mastery: Expert operational fluency in all of the main SolidWorks modules, including as Surfacing, Weldments, Sheet Metal, Advanced Part Modeling, and Large Assembly Management. Data Architecture Governance (PDM): The ability to use SolidWorks PDM Professional or Standard vaults to regulate revision trees, manage workflow statuses, and check files in and out. In order to maximize component interchangeability, GD&T Application Engineering uses deep functional literacy to read and calculate form, profile, orientation, and placement tolerances. Parametric Feature Tree Hygiene: Outstanding discipline in renaming features, organizing external references to avoid broken assembly dependencies, and preserving clear, logical sketch relations. Foundations of Industrial Fabrication: A thorough understanding of the physical characteristics of raw materials, sheet metal stretching regulations, and machining tool clearances.
