Tool Development Engineer Industrial Dies & Moulds Job Description In manufacturing industries, the job of the tool room engineer is to design, fabricate, inspect, maintain, and repair specialised tools, dies, moulds, jigs, fixtures, and precise gauges used in shop floor production. This position ensures that all tooling assets provide high dimensional accuracy, long service life, and optimal cycle times while minimising line downtime through thorough preventative maintenance and quick troubleshooting. It works closely with product design, manufacturing engineering, quality assurance, and production teams. Responsibilities: Use CAD/CAM software to design, modify, and improve press tools, injection molds, injection molds, jigs, fixtures, and specialty tools. Supervises precision machining and tool manufacturing operations including conventional and CNC milling, turning, grinding, EDM, and EDM. Perform trial and testing of new tools (T0/T1 testing) by validating prototypes against technical specifications using measurement tools and GD&T principles. Maintain comprehensive tool documentation including tool drawings, overhaul logs, maintenance history, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and bills of materials (BOMs). Promote 5S, continuous improvement (Kaizen), and safety standards across all tool shop operations to ensure compliance with equipment safety requirements and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) guidelines. Skills: strong technical understanding of surface coatings, heat treatment procedures, tool steels, mould and die building, and toolmaking concepts. practical familiarity with tool room metrology tools (CMM, micro-height gauges, optical comparators) and CAD/CAM platforms (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mastercam, or Creo). practical knowledge of how to operate and program tool room equipment, such as CNC mills, lathes, surface grinders, wire EDM, and sinker EDM. profound knowledge of precision measuring methods, technical drawing interpretation, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. knowledge of 8D problem-solving, ERP/CMMS systems for tracking tooling assets, and Quality Core Tools (APQP, FMEA, and SPC) We invite you to apply and explore this exciting opportunity!
